001 - First Night

I arrived on board the Devonshire this evening. There really wasn't time to report for duty. So, I'll do that in the morning.

I had dinner and chatted with some other Ensigns. They all seemed nice. It reminded me of my last year at the Academy. Everyone was relaxed, yet with an aire of competition amongst them.

I guess I got board with the conversation and began to walk the decks of the ship. I guess I walked for about 90 minutes. Maybe I was nervous a little and a bit curious. All the crew members I came in contact with were helpful and considerate. It's quite an encouraging feeling.

I stopped by the Gymnasium and spoke to one of the athletic trainers. Ammm, I think his name was Kawalski. Ya, that's right, Andrew Kawalski. He said there were a couple others on board that trained with a bow-staff. Even if this duty station isn't exciting, it will definitely not be boring. Oh, it was odd, well not really. He made a serious point about, when he is training or working out there are no ranks, just experience levels. I found that quite refreshing.

Of course my quarters are going to be outstanding. With individual quarters, I can make the decor as I prefer as well as the climate more accommodating to my Andorian desires.

I think tomorrow, after reporting to the XO, I will excuse myself for a short time from bridge duty to check in with the Chief Engineer. I was talking to an Ensign this evening in one of the lounges. He's an Engineer on board and said that Commander Kita was very knowledgeable and a good leader, but seems a bit distant. I know I'm going to need a good relationship with the Chief Engineer. So, I think a personal conversation would be appropriate.
