New Squadron Leader

Posted on Thu Jan 19th, 2017 @ 10:12pm by Major Meredith Thompson & Master Sergeant Ernest Santini & Captain Lucius Abernathy-Nadir

Mission: Episode 0: The Prologue
Location: Fighter Bay

Meredith looked up as her door opened. The barrel chested Santini leaned in with a warm grin. "Wraith your new squadron leader just landed in the bay. Seems to know what his about." he told her.

"Lovely. thanks Ernie." Meredith smiled and grabbing her jacket stood up. her long dark hair was held back in a bun at the nape of her neck as it always was on duty and she made her way through to where the new pilots had landed.

From force of habit she counted the birds that had landed whilst looking for the Squadron leader. at six foot five inches tall she supposed Captain Lucius Abernathy-Nadir would not be difficult to locate.

Her logic was correct and she saw him talking to a non com not far from her. When they had finished talking she stepped forward "Captain Abernathy-Nadir?" She asked. "I am Major Thompson" She informed hm holding her hand out politely.

Luc had just begun walking away when stopped short as a lithe woman with dark hair and a hard face stood before him. He heard her speaking almost at the same time he noticed the gold oak leaf and snapped to attention, bringing his hand up in a firm salute despite the offered hand. "Ma'am!" He replied crisply as instinct threw him mentally back to parade ground.

"At ease Captain. In these new travels I need a confident and not someone worrying about stepping on toes. Was told that was you so how about we start again? I'm Wraith your wing commander and you are?" she asked holding her hand out

"Old habit Major." he replied dropping his salute and accepting her hand. "Luc but folks often call me Sasquatch. As for stepping on toes, I think with you and I, that's a legitimate worry" he said with a chuckle as he indicated their extraordinary difference in height.

"Meredith. And there's only a 5 inch difference in height so we should be OK." she chuckled. Looking about them she saw the squadron of fighters. "Did they perform satisfactorily?" she asked

Luc looked over at the fighters for a moment. "I only flew one of them personally, but the rest looked good. My chief will have a report for me tomorrow on the initial inspection."

"That's fine." she smiled. "Can we have the individual flyers appraisal of the birds please? what was ok what is an issue. Each pilot is unique perhaps our ground crew can tweak the planes to each pilots style. Make them more effective." she smiled

Luc nodded. "I was discussing with my Gunny earlier assigning two techs to each fighter along with a dedicated pilot per fighter. That always well for me in the past. Allows the ground crew, pilot and bird to become a pretty cohesive unit. I was actually on way to debrief the squadron when you found me. I'll have then write a report on how each craft handled as well as any nuances they noticed. It'll be compiled with the maintenance report on each craft. Thankfully, the squadron lead Chief and I go back so we already have a good working relationship. Shouldn't take long before the same can be said for the rest of the pilots and the ground crew personnel. As for the craft I piloted over here. It flew perfect until landing. It wanted to pull slightly starboard when I made my descent. I've already noted it on the log."

"That's fine then." she smiled.

Luc nodded and clasped his hands behind his back. His new CO looked younger than he had imagined. But that was something he was used to by now. "Was there anything else Major?"

"No, no I think that's about it,. Consider yourself reported in" She smiled

"Aye Ma'am." He said smiling before coming to attention and saluting once more, taking a step back, executing a left face and heading off in the direction of his gathering pilots to brief them.
